Intensive program designed for youth looking for adventure and building of outdoor skills. A great program for the young male who is looking for something more that just summer camp. You might wish to become a guide, learn outdoor philosophy, work as a camp counselor, maybe learn canoeing skills, water safety, work out of doors, or just gather outdoor knowledge and skills to assist you in life. Whatever your dream or reason is, we look forward to walking the path with you as you build your skills in the Maine woods. Maxi um of 20 students per session.

In the standard course students will learn fire building, shelter construction, plant and wildlife identification, how to pack a pack, awareness skills, bow drill, environmental concerns, how to read animal tracks, wild foods, sheltering, how to build a survival kit, how to select outdoor clothing, reading the weather, adventure overnight canoe trips, ropes and knots, outdoor cooking, food and menu planning, map and compass, basic rock climbing, basic survival skills, water safety, kayak and canoeing skills, water purification, fishing equipment and types of fish, you will also learn about firearm safety and receive basic first aid and CPR training certification.

Maine Outdoor School,is an out door classroom with overnight canoe trips and much primitive camping, you are always on the move. Our dedicated and experienced staff is committed to providing a safe and wholesome setting for students. From hands on building of a bow drill to class with a power point presentation to being on the water paddling – a Maine experience.

You will be camping rain or shine; the days are long, from morning chores to evening classes. In fact you will be moving about almost daily, maybe tracking a moose, canoeing, casting for trout, or getting wet learning paddling strokes. During each session we attempt to do one overnight river trip – setting camp, cooking and learning about plants, tree usage and wildlife. Group team skills and camp chores are part of the program. Be it your turn to gather wood, cook or do dishes, we will build a solid team with long lasting memories.

Camp includes all meals, equipment, manuals, reference books (yours for
the keeping), overnight camping, all fee’s and permits. We also maintain a small store where students can purchase outdoor equipment. Students will have a chance to go to the local store or have additional needs pickup at our local Wal-Mart in town.

We are 20 minutes from Bangor International Airport and the bus terminal, our staff can pickup students and insure their safe return.
